Our new Co-convenor, Alison Navarro

We’re delighted to announce that the new Co-convenor of the network is Alison Navarro, who will be working alongside Steve Wyler from 1 March, starting with a handover period with the Co-convenor she will replace, Caroline Slocock.

Alison has a brilliant background for this role, bringing considerable experience of achieving social change at community level, working successfully with communities and in partnership with both the public and private sectors, most recently as the Chief Executive of Community Action Sutton. She also brings a deep knowledge of the challenges faced by black and racially minoritized communities, including through her recent work with Ubele, a black led racial justice organisation, and through her own lived experience. She is a skilled facilitator who, amongst other things, has worked to ensure the voices of those seldom heard are elevated and supported.

Alison said:

‘I have been involved in A Better Way Network on and off over the last 5 years and I have always found it an inspiring, safe and challenging space to learn, listen and grow. I feel privileged to now be part of developing the network and supporting its growth, reach and influence in terms of the diversity of both its membership and focus. I hope that my passion for equity, and my facilitation and leadership skills will add another dimension to what is already a truly inclusive and vibrant network.’

Caroline will be stepping back as Co-convenor at the end of March but will still be involved, becoming the chair of a Better Way’s core group, which acts as a sounding board for the development of the network, and hopes to devote more time to other, related projects.

Caroline commented:

‘Steve and I are really excited by this new appointment, which will deepen the network’s understanding of how to make change happen at grass roots level and give a real boost to our wish to increase the diversity of the network in all its dimensions, including in terms of race. I am sad to be stepping aside, of course, though I will still continue to be involved in the network, particularly its strategic direction, and hope to continue to take part in some discussions too. I have met so many brilliant people through the network and learnt so much from you all and I would like to thank you for your participation in a Better Way – you are its strength.’

Alison is looking forward very much to meeting you over the coming months and to welcoming more people to the network.
