Better leadership for health and care: Why isn’t command and control working in driving improvements in health and care, and what do we need in its place?
This is a series of two meetings, open to all those interested in finding better ways of bringing about a healthy society and providing care and support when people need it. The first meeting on 13th February will open up the question and share insights and challenges – if we don’t like command-and-control leadership methods in our health and care systems, what are the alternatives, and do they actually work in driving positive change? The second meeting on 17th April will be a ‘deep dive’ into one or more case studies, to explore the practical implications..
This event is part of a wider series exploring this question: What kind of leaders should we be?
In our meetings in 2021 and 2022, we started to talk about a new kind of leadership where:
We become leaders not because we hold positions of power, but because we give power to others.
We deploy the four Better Way behaviours to build connection and community beyond our organisations.
We create the conditions for those at the sharp end to take more control.
But how can we counter the existing ‘command and control’ and managerial leadership model and make this new style of leadership more widespread?
