Inverting the pyramid in the health and care fields so that those at the front-line lead and managers follow

What would it take to invert the pyramid in the health and care fields so that those at the front-line lead and managers follow?

This is part of a series of events to explore what can be done to reduce health inequalities and improve social care, in our communities, and nationwide.

How best to lead on a national agenda that brings people with you rather than imposing on others?

This is part of a series of events to consider how to bring alive the Better Way principle that ‘mass participation is better than centralised power’ and generate a fresh practice of everyday democracy.

Better leadership for health and care (second meeting).

Better leadership for health and care (second meeting).

Better leadership for health and care: Why isn’t command and control working in driving improvements in health and care, and what do we need in its place?

This is a series of two meetings, open to all those interested in finding better ways of bringing about a healthy society and providing care and support when people need it. The first meeting on 13th February will open up the question and share insights and challenges – if we don’t like command-and-control leadership methods in our health and care systems, what are the alternatives, and do they actually work in driving positive change? The second meeting on 17th April will be a ‘deep dive’ into one or more case studies, to explore the practical implications.

This event is part of a wider series exploring this question: What kind of leaders should we be?

In our meetings in 2021 and 2022, we started to talk about a new kind of leadership where:

  • We become leaders not because we hold positions of power, but because we give power to others.

  • We deploy the four Better Way behaviours to build connection and community beyond our organisations.

  • We create the conditions for those at the sharp end to take more control.

But how can we counter the existing ‘command and control’ and managerial leadership model and make this new style of leadership more widespread?

What kind of leaders should we be? Leadership and well-being.

What does a well-being approach to leadership look and feel like?

Over the last two years well-being has come on the agenda like never before. This seems to be a big and welcome shift. But what does this mean for the practice of leadership?

This event is part of a series exploring this question which cuts across the four behaviours in our model for change: What kind of leaders should we be?

In our meetings in 2021, we started to talk about a new kind of leadership where:

What kind of leaders should we be? Does strategy still matter?

What kind of leaders should we be? Does strategy still matter?

Does strategy still matter in times of crisis?

In these turbulent times are we shifting away from a conventional planning approach? And if so, what does this mean for how leaders operate?
